Syriac Military Council Commander Senherîb (Heysem Yonan) who lost his life in Til Temir was laid to rest at Syriac Cemetery in Hasekê.

Heysem Yonan was martyred during the resistance in the village of Til Hirmiz against the ISIS attacks on Assyrian people in Til Temir on 23 March.

Funeral for the Syriac commander was held at Mary Al-Azrai Church in Nasira neighborhood of Hasekê with the attendance of hundreds of Syriac, Kurdish, Arab, Assyrian and Chaldean people.

A delegation consisting of Democratic Autonomous Administration Human Rights Council President Senherîb Bersûm, Economy and Trade Council President Siham Qeryo, Defense Council Co-president Ebdulehed Gewriyê and Foreign Commission Co-president Şamîran Şamûn, as well as representatives of political parties and non-governmental organizations in the region were also present at the funeral.

Speaking during the religious ceremony in the church, Syriac Mar Cercis Orthodoz Church Patriarch Antonios El-Heno remembered all the resisting fighters martyred defending the region.

Following the speech, Senherîb's body was taken to the Syriac Cemetery in Mişêrfê neighborhood where the mass stood one minute's silence for the martyrs of revolution before a military ceremony by Syriac Military Council and YPG (People's Defense Units) fighters.

Speaking after the ceremony, Syriac Military Council Spokesperson Kîno Gabriel reiterated their promise to keep the memory of Commander Senherîb all other martyrs alive, and to follow in their footsteps. Kîno Gabriel said that; "Our people have suffered many massacres throughout their history. Our comrades are resisting to stop the ISIS massacre. Our martyred comrades believed in the cause of our people, and never hesitated to sacrifice their lives for this cause. We will remain loyal to their memory and struggle forever."

Remarking that freedom fighters enlightened their path with the struggle they waged and the prices they paid, Gabriel pointed to the historic process in the region which -he said- forced them to unite and resist against the attacks and threats they being faced. "We do not accept to be defined as Syriac, Assyrian or Chaldean. We are one, we are the people. On this basis, we promise to defend the cause of the Mesopotamian people and to protect them from attacks", he underlined.

Following the ceremony and speech, Syriac resistance fighter and commander Senherîb was laid to rest in company with slogans praising the resistance.

Condolences for Senherîb will be received at a tent to be set up at Mary Al-Azrai Church today.
