Shengal Council condemns Iraqi government’s attitude

Shengal Council had talks with the Iraqi authorities who did not allow convoy from Northern Syria to cross the border to attend Mam Zeki’s funeral.

The co-chair of Shengal Council, Rîham Heco said she had a meeting with the Iraqi authorities to let the group of citizens from Northern Syria to cross the border and attend the funeral of Zeki Şengali who had been assassinated in a Turkish air raid in Shengal on Wednesday 15.

Rîham Heco told ANHA: "The people of Northern Syria have always supported the Yazidi people, especially after the genocide on 3 August 2014. Today they wanted to reach Shengal to attend the funeral of Zeki Şengali and showed once again their solidarity with the people of Shengal”.

Heco met with Iraqi authorities to negotiate the permission for the people from Northern Syria. "The Iraqi authorities have denied permission to cross the border. This attitude of the Iraqi government shows that they are in fact in collusion with the occupying Turkish state and its attack on Shengal. This attitude and policy of the Iraqi government is directed towards the Yazidi people and the people of the region. We condemn such an approach and attitude”.

Ending her remarks, Heco made a call: "All Kurds in the four parts of Kurdistan and all over the world should stand up against the conspiracy against the Yazidis.”
