Shengal Coordination statement on the murder of two peshmergas

Shengal Coordination issued a written statement about the death of two volunteer peshmergas in their 60s in Shengal, and emphasized that the peshmergas’ bodies were found between two KDP Asayish checkpoints.

Shengal Coordination issued a written statement about the death of two volunteer peshmergas, who had disappeared two days ago. In the statement, the Coordination noted that they found out about the peshmergas’ disappearance from the highest-ranking KDP officer in Shengal, who called and threatened Shengal Coordination officials. The Coordination emphasized that the peshmerga officials’ threats suggest that the disappearances had a different background in which some other actors were involved.

'REGIONAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCIES HAVE PLANNED PROVOCATIVE ACTIONS'

In its statement, the Coordination recalled the recent statements Turkey has made on Shengal, and underlined that regional intelligence agencies have planned and carried out provocative actions in the region. Shengal Coordination recalled that the disappeared peshmergas were earth digger operators over 60 years old, and said that it was inhumane and immoral to massacre two people that patriotically serve their land, dump their bodies on the side of the road, and steal their guns and vehicles. Shengal Coordination remarked that the statements that accuse the Coordination for the event, that are mostly made on Rudaw media group, show that the killers had a purpose of blaming the Coordination for the murders.

‘ACCUSATIONS ARE PURPOSEFUL AND PLANNED’

Shengal Coordination described the accusations as purposeful and planned, and emphasized that the bodies of the peshmergas were found between two KDP Asayish checkpoints. The coordination recalled that there are many armed groups other than HPG, YBŞ and peshmerga forces on Mount Shengal, and highlighted that KDP has always rejected the Coordination’s calls for establishing a joint command in Shengal. The coordination said that those that reject the formation of a joint command are responsible for the murders and similar events.

‘INVESTIGATION THAT INCLUDES ALL MILITARY POWERS MUST BE CARRIED OUT’

Shengal Coordination stated that other murders that have taken place over the past ten days for familial and social issues have also been wrongfully portrayed as political, and called for an independent investigation of the peshmergas’ murder by a commission to involve representatives of all military powers.

Lastly, Shengal Coordination offered its condolences to the families of the two peshmergas as well as all Kurdish people.
