The General Coordination of Rojava Cantons has celebrated in a written statement the victory gained in Girê Spî against the ISIS gangs, describing it as an important step in building democratic Syria.

The statement recalled the occupation by ISIS of the town on 21 July 2013, after which it became one of the strongholds of the gangs, remarking that Girê Spî was used as one of the operation centres of the ISIS gangs from where the attacks on Rojava were planned in and launched.

The statement said Girê Spî was liberated in a joint operation of YPG/YPJ, Burkan Al-Fırat and Lawa Al Tahrir forces, and that the Kurdish and Arab youth have acted together in unity for the liberation of the town just as it was also the case during the Kobanê resistance, adding that this unity signifies the fraternity and a national coalition of peoples of Syria.

The statement stressed that this unity doesn't have a political program but is based on a program for building a democratic, pluralist and free Syria starting from today, and added that this unity is achieved through joint struggle in political and military fronts rather than being assigned from outside as in the case of the so-called Syrian Coalition.

Rojava Coordination further stressed that they celebrate the victory of all Kurdish, Assyrian, Syriac and Arab people, and that they consider this victory as the beginning of a new period in Syria, based on democracy rather than oppression and cruelty.

Rojava Coordination also said that behind the victory in Girê Spî lies the liberation of Kobanê and its villages, Mount Kizwan, the villages in the rural areas of Girê Spî and Raqqa as well as Mount Qarsê and Qestel Cindo, and greeted all those who contributed to the realization of this victorious liberation.

Rojava Coordination finally offered thanks to the coalition forces which contributed to the victory through airstrikes, and announced that they will not allow any power to harm the unity and fraternity of the peoples sustained in Rojava.
