Chief for Kurdistan Migration Office Shaker Yasin said his office, which is an appendix of the Ministry of Interior, jointly held a conference with migration officials from the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Austria and France, Aknews reported. Any Iraqi Kurdistan refugee or asylum seeker who voluntarily returns home from a select few European countries will be allocated between €3,000 and €5,000 (4.6m - 7.6m IQD) under a new scheme.
The foreign officials voiced their readiness to assist any refugees who wish to return to Kurdistan from these countries. Yasin added that the returnees should coordinate their travel back home with the International Organization for Migration in the said countries so that they are exempt from travel expenses. When they return home, Yasin explained, the Kurdistan Migration Office will also allocate between €3,000 and €5,000 to them over the course of five months.
