PYD Congress announces final declaration

The PYD has issued the final declaration of the congress it held in the Cizir Canton on 8 May attended by 450 delegates. The congress was organised under the slogan: “A Free Rojava and a Democratic Syria”.

The Democratic Union Party (PYD) Cizîr Canton First Congress has announced its final declaration.

The PYD has issued the final declaration of the congress it held in the Cizir Canton on 8 May attended by 450 delegates. The congress was organised under the slogan: “A Free Rojava and a Democratic Syria” and was also attended by 150 guests from Rojava (West) Kurdistan.

The final declaration of the two-day conference held in the Rimelan district of Girkê Legê has been issued.

In the declaration, it was stated that the crisis in Syria has been caused by a denial of the existence of peoples in Syria, by the regional states that have agendas, terror organisations and certain battalions linked to the opposition. The declaration said it was necessary for the party to engage in institutionalisation in order to create a political ethical society on account of all this.

The declaration noted that PYD Co-president Asya Abdullah had stated that the Rojava revolution had stemmed from the democratic nation philosophy of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, and was based on a Democratic Autonomous Administration project.

Efram Ishaq, the deputy co-chair of the Cizir Canton Democratic Autonomous Administration also spoke at the congress, saying that the first congress was being held at a very sensitive time in the region, adding that the gains achieved were being protected by YPG/YPJ fighters.

Cizir Canton Executive Assembly co-chair Ekrem Hiso said the PYD had put all its facilities at the service of society, and that the congress would contribute to the establishing of a joint life for the peoples of the region. TEV DEM Executive Assembly member Şahoz Hesen said that the PYD had a very important role to play in Rojava and Syria .

A political report was read out covering the previous period. This was followed by a debate on the report.

The importance of all Kurdish political parties working together was stressed, and attention was drawn to the fact the PYD has a national project.

A call was made at the congress for economic projects to be introduced in the region, given the sensitive political situation. Support was also urged for the resistance being waged by the people of Rojava and the YPG/YPJ fighters in particular.

The declaration noted that the party's institutionalisation efforts needed to be stepped up, and that a draft programme had been submitted to the congress and accepted after discussion. It was said that this programme had removed bureaucratic approaches and resolved organisational problems. Delegates at the congress added that activities amongst women and young people would be increased and that all committees that were set up would would in accordance with the principle of establishing a political ethical society.

At the conclusion of the congress a new PYD administration of 35 persons was set up. Gender and youth quotas were reviewed, and it was emphasised that the struggle would continue until a democratic Syria and a democratic Middle East were attained.
