One killed and twelve injured in avalanche in Van

An avalanche broke loose in Van yesterday evening and hit a high mountain road. A minibus was caught in the avalanche and pushed into a ditch by the masses of snow. One woman was killed and twelve people were injured.

A woman died and twelve other people were injured in an avalanche in the province of Van in northern Kurdistan. The severity of the injuries is currently unknown.

The accident took place on the D975 highway on Monday evening. A minibus was traveling from Van to Hakkari when an avalanche broke loose on the slope above the high mountain road and pushed the vehicle into the ditch.

According to the authorities, a total of 15 people were traveling in the minibus. Two of them were able to free themselves from the badly damaged vehicle, while the others were rescued by a team from AFAD ((Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency).
