The Batman (Êlih) Newroz Organizing Committee said that Newroz in the city will be held with the slogans "Rêbertiya Azad Civaka Demokratîk" and "Democratic Society Newroz for Freedom". The first fire was lit in the neighborhood of Korik by thousands of people.

The Newroz celebration was attended by young people chanting "Bijî Serok Apo", "Bê Serok jiyan nabe", "Jin jiyan azadî", "Youth is Apo's sacrifice", "We will win by resisting" and "PKK is the people, the people are here".

After a minute's silence, the crowd stood around the Newroz fire and sang the "Çerxa şoreşê" march. The people demanded freedom for Öcalan.

Gülistan Sönük, the co-mayor of the Batman Municipality, who was replaced by a trustee, called for building honorable peace together.

DEM Party Batman Provincial co-chair Songül Korkmaz said that the Newroz fire was lit for honorable peace and that this year's Newroz is the Newroz of freedom for all peoples.

Newroz Organizing Committee co-spokesperson and DEM Party Batman Provincial co-chair Mustafa Mesut Tekik said: "The 27 February manifesto is a manifesto of freedom, equality and honorable peace".
