Maxmur people call for unity against Turkey's threats

The people of Maxmur, who have been subject to an embargo for a long time, called on the Kurds to unite against the invasions and threats of the Turkish state.

While the Turkish state's invasions in Rojava and Southern Kurdistan continue, threats against Maxmur and Shengal have also escalated. Turkey was forced to retreat in the face of a heavy blow by the guerrillas in Gare.

The people of Martyr Rüstem Cudi Refugee Camp (Maxmur) called the Kurds to unite against the threats of the Turkish state.

Camp resident Xanim Gundikremo stated that the threats of the Turkish state are not new and said, "We left our lands and came here because of the pressures and arrests."

Gundikremo continued, “The threats did not stop after we came here. The Turkish state is a brutal and unscrupulous enemy. We have been resisting for more than 20 years and we will continue to resist. We will win.”

Reminding that the Turkish state lost 37 military personnel in Garê and had to withdraw, another resident Selim Shaxi said, “Since Makhmur, Shengal and Garê are strategic areas, the Turkish state threatens to occupy them. Turkey is afraid of the Kurds. The regional government also supports the Turkish state. That's why they attacked Garê.”

Xurşid Demir, who takes part in the hunger strike in the camp in solidarity with political prisoners on hunger strike since November, stated that the dreams of the Turkish state and its collaborators were frustrated in Garê and said: “America, the KDP and others know that Maxmur, Shengal, Qandil and Garê are Turkey’s targets. Now they are attacking civilians and the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), which indicates their defeat. Turkey wants to destroy the Kurds in the person of the PKK. Therefore, I am happy with the success (of the guerrilla) in Garê and congratulate it. We call on the Kurdish people: They must stand up for the freedom of the Leader (Öcalan) and the end of the isolation. The time for freedom has come, we must liberate our Leader."

Maxmur Youth Movement member Murad Roboski recalled that the Turkish state attacked the Garê, massacred the prisoners and had to withdraw, saying that the success of the guerrilla in Garê made them happy.

Roboski said, “The people of Maxmur are not afraid of Turkey’s threats, they have been resisting despite all difficulties for 20 years. We are always prepared for any attack."

Roboski also criticized the KDP which imposed an embargo on Maxmur Camp at Turkey’s request. He noted that a national congress can only prevent such collaborations.

Selma Bozan, a member of the Maxmur Young Women’s Movement, said, "Erdogan's threats against the Kurds, especially Maxmur, reveal the anger that comes from the defeat of Garê."

Bozan pointed out that “We, as the youth of Maxmur, support the guerrilla with all our might. Our struggle will continue until Leader Apo (Öcalan) is free. No matter how much Erdogan threatens, we will remove these threats with our will and the philosophy of our leader.”
