Thousands of people from different cities of France flocked to Marseille demanding ‘Freedom for Leader Öcalan, Status for Kurdistan’. Organised under the leadership of the Marseille Democratic Assembly and Arin Mirkan Women's Assembly, the demonstration was attended by people from Bordeaux, Nantes, Lyon, Nice and Avignon.

Masses gathered on the Canebière Street in Marseille and marched to the United Nations (UN) building, chanting ‘Freedom for Leader Apo’.

During the march, a giant banner reading ‘Free Öcalan’ along with Öcalan’s photograph and banners reading ‘La Liberte de Öcalan Est La Nortre’, ‘Jin Jiyan Azadî’, ‘Liberte Pour Öcalan, La Paix au Kurdistan’ were carried.

Amin Kessaci, a member of the French Green Party (EELV), made a speech at the demonstration that continued until the UN building. Highlighting the cultural heritage and resistance of the Kurdish people, Kessaci said, “The deep-rooted culture and resistance of the Kurds are bearing fruit in Rojava today. This resistance will also bring the freedom of Mr Abdullah Öcalan.”

Marseille People's Assembly Co-spokesperson Erhan Karayazı stated that they will continue their actions in every field to ensure the release of Öcalan. Karayazı called on the international community to exert more pressure for Öcalan’s freedom and said, “Our struggle for the freedom of Leader Öcalan will continue on every platform.”
