Many detained in Amed and Dersim

Numerous opposition members have been detained in Amed and Dersim. Turkish police stormed various homes at dawn. In Amed, HDP politicians have been detained, while four people in Dersim have been accused of "terrorism".

Raids took place in Amed (tr. Diyarbakir) and Dersim, and numerous opposition members were taken into custody in their homes at dawn on Wednesday. The police operation in Amed was directed against the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP). Among those detained are former district mayors Necati Pirinççioğlu, Ramazan Kartalmış and Mervan Yıldız, HDP members Tarık Yazgan and Rıdavan Ezel, and five unnamed employees of the Ergani district administration.

Commenting on the arrests, the HDP said that the judiciary was controlled by the government and tasked with blocking the democratic political struggle.

Simultaneous house searches took place in Dersim due to an investigation by the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Four people were detained as alleged members of a terrorist organization. The detainees, Eser Kaya, Kemal Ağ, Burak Kurban and Berdan Tosun, were taken to the local police headquarters.
