The members of Kobanê and Cizîr Cantons' Executive assemblies visited Girê Spî in order to assess the situation in the town. The administrators of the two cantons first visited People’s House (Mala Gel) in Girê Spî and then went to the border gate in order to assess the situation there. After their assessment, administrators held a press conference at the border gate.
The group of Rojava canton administrators was composed of Cizîr Canton Executive Assembly Chair Ekrem Hiso and Vice-Chair Elizabeth Gewriyê; Defence Council Chair, Ebdulkerim Saroxan; Foreign Affairs Council Chair, Ebdulkerim Umer; Martyrs’ Council Chair, Rêzan Gulo; Vice-Chair of Kobanê Canton Executive Assembly Xalid Berkel; and Kobanê Dfence Council Chair Şêx Hesen.
Speaking at the press conference, Kobanê Canton Executive Assembly Vice-Chair Xalid Berkel stressed the importance of the gathering of two cantons administrators in Girê Spî. Berkel added that this gathering in Girê Spî, which was under the occupation of regime forces that had denied the existence of the Kurds and later taken over by ISIS gangs, has a significant meaning. “The town is now liberated. We own this historic moment to YPG/YPJ and Burkan Al-Fırat forces”, said Berkel, adding that the goal of the resistance forces is to guarantee the people’s rights and build a democratic and free Syria.
Speaking on behalf of the Cizîr Canton Executive Assembly, Ekrem Hiso stressed the importance of their meeting and offered his respect to the martyrs who made this historic gathering possible.
Hiso drew attention to the worldwide recognition of the democratic autonomous system and to the successful realisation of this system in the region. Hiso added that the common coordination of the three Rojava cantons (Rojava Cantons General Coordination) is ready to serve to the peoples of Girê Spî. Hiso said this would be the first step in building a democratic Syria through democratic autonomous administrations.
Hiso lastly called on all the people who had to flee away from the region to return to their lands and contribute to building of a democratic life.
