KDP attacks guerrilla camp in Xakurke

The KDP attacked a guerrilla camp in Xakurke with heavy weapons and settled in the area. At the same time, Turkish drones and fighter jets flew over the region in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

Military units of the KDP attacked a guerrilla camp in the Berdesorê area in the Xakurke region of South Kurdistan with heavy weapons at eight o'clock in the morning local time. According to local sources, the guerrillas avoided a skirmish to prevent the situation from escalating further. KDP troops are now reported to be stationed in the area. At the same time as the attack, air movements of Turkish drones and fighter jets were observed over the region.

The KDP and Turkey have intensified their attacks on Xakurke since last year. On March 12, a Peshmerga fighter had died in a mine explosion, and KDP-affiliated media had blamed the PKK. The HPG had denied the accusation the next day, saying that the area had been mined since the Saddam era.

On March 19, two villagers near the village of Sininê had been injured when their vehicle was fired upon by Turkish forces. On Saturday, Xakurke was heavily bombed by fighter jets and Cobra helicopters of the Turkish army.
