KCK: We condemn the killing of Alawites in Syria

The KCK strongly condemned the killing of Alawites in Syria and emphasized that the solution lies in Abdullah Öcalan’s democratic nation system.

The Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council co-presidency issued a statement condemning the killing of Alawites in Syria and emphasized that the solution lies in Abdullah Öcalan’s democratic nation system.

The statement reads as follows:

"In areas of Syria where the Alawite population is concentrated, attacks against Alawites have intensified over the past week, and just two days ago, dozens of people were massacred. The images circulating in the media have laid bare the horror and brutality of this atrocity. We strongly condemn this savage massacre targeting the Alawite people. We extend our condolences to the Alawite community and all the peoples of Syria. We are deeply saddened by this situation. Once again, we want to state that the Kurdish people stand in solidarity with all communities in Syria.

Committing such a massacre during Ramadan, a sacred month for Muslims in which shedding blood is strictly forbidden, is not only a profound tragedy for humanity but also a great failure and disgrace for Muslims and Islam itself. It is both a heinous crime against humanity and a grave sin. That those who claim to uphold Islam have carried out such a massacre is utterly unacceptable. There is no justification for this in Islam. Those who truly follow Islam do not commit massacres or genocide, nor do they shed blood, especially during Ramadan when it is explicitly forbidden. For individuals who ignore one of the most fundamental principles of Islam, even in this holy month, presenting themselves as Muslims is nothing but deception and falsehood. For this reason, it is Muslims, above all others, who must take a stand against this brutal and inhumane massacre.

The fact that this massacre was perpetrated by the Damascus regime is deeply concerning for the future of Syria. This situation has made it clear what kind of danger Syria and its people are facing. It is imperative that everyone recognizes this threat and takes a stance against it. Despite knowing the ideology and practices of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the forces that have supported and legitimized it with their backing cannot remain silent in the face of this massacre. Their failure to strongly condemn this atrocity is unacceptable. The peoples of Syria are under the threat of massacres and genocide due to a sectarian, monolithic, and reactionary mentality. This regressive and exclusionary mindset is the root cause of these atrocities and must not be supported. Those who have backed and legitimized this mentality until now are complicit in this massacre. Furthermore, anyone who continues to support this ideology will be held accountable for all future massacres. For this reason, we call on everyone to reassess their stance, to strongly condemn this brutal massacre against the Alawite people, and to take a clear position against it. What must be done in Syria is to work towards the establishment of a democratic political system that includes all Syrian peoples, communities, and cultural and religious groups, where everyone’s rights are recognized, and their will is reflected. The efforts and mindset that deserve support are those striving for democracy and inclusion.

Once again, it has become clear that the fairest and most effective solution for Syria and the Middle East is the democratic nation system developed by Mr. Öcalan, which is founded on the principles of brotherhood, equality, and coexistence among peoples.
The massacre inflicted upon the Alawite people has once again demonstrated that nationalist, sectarian, and exclusionary ideologies offer no solution and bring nothing but massacres and genocides that shame humanity. Mr. Öcalan’s 'Call for Peace and a Democratic Society,' which was announced to the world on February 27, 2025, is fundamentally aimed at preventing massacres and genocides, ending war and conflict in the Middle East, and creating a society where everyone’s rights are recognized and freedom is ensured. The salvation of the Middle East and humanity lies in the realization of this manifesto. A Democratic Syria and a Democratic Middle East guarantee a free, equal, and democratic life for all peoples, beliefs, and, above all, women and other oppressed identities."
