Journalists pay condolence visit to the family of Nazım Daştan

DFG and MKG paid a condolence visit to the family of journalist Nazım Daştan who was killed along with Cihan Bilgin by a Turkish drone strike in northern Syria.

The family of journalist Nazım Daştan, who was killed together with his colleague Cihan Bilgin in an UCAV (unmanned combat aerial vehicle) attack by the Turkish state in Rojava, is receiving condolence visits in their hometown, Diyadin district of Ağrı province.

Many journalists from Dicle Fırat Journalists Association (DFG) and Mesopotamia Women Journalists Association (MKG) visited Nazım Daştan's family and expressed their condolences on Sunday.

Speaking during the visit, DFG Van Representative Adnan Bilen said that Nazım and Cihan were murdered while reporting to the world what was happening in their geography and added: “As their colleagues, we will continue their struggle for truth with courage. We will not let down their torches that illuminate the darkness.”

Nazım Daştan's mother, Zozan Daştan, said, ‘You are all Nazım. I am proud of my child. The only thing I regret is that Nazım's goals were left unfinished. I have no worries that you will realise those goals.”

In the meantime, police prevented gatherings for Nazım Daştan at the mourning house in the district. The family then started to receive condolences in the garden of their house. Since yesterday, both the DEM Party Diyadin District Organisation and the Fatih neighbourhood where Daştan family resides have been under police blockade. Despite the police pressure and blockade, condolence visits to the family continue.
