Joint call to join Workers’ Day Rally in Amed

HDP, DBP, DTK and TJA called upon to join the Workers’ Day rally in Amed.

The HDP,  the DBP (Party of Democratic Regions), Amed provincial organizations, Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA) have released a joint press release to call upon people to join the Workers’ Day rally in Amed.

HDP Provincial Co-Chair Filiz Buluttekin read the statement in front of the HDP headquarters in Amed.

Buluttekin said that this year’s slogan for the 1 May rally will be: “No to death on the workplace, no to work without safety, no to the State of Emergency and no to war”.

The rally will be held, as traditionally happens, in the central İstasyon Square. Buluttekin recalled that May 1 is a day to remember the sacrifices and struggles of so many workers to secure safe working conditions and rights for people.

Pointing the finger at the plague of “staff subcontracting”, Buluttekin said: “While subcontracting staff increases the risk to safety and discrimination among the workers, ongoing privatization also means less safety for workers. Death on the workplace is a constant, dramatic reality, yet the courts seem to actually reward bosses instead of punishing them”.

The HDP Co-Chair ended the statement by saying that on 1 May her organization will be participating and joining the forces that have taken the streets on both Women’ Day and Newroz to ask an ending of slavery conditions imposed on workers. Among the speakers at the rally will be HDP Co-Chairperson Sezai Temelli.
