Iran cuts off flow of Zap river to Southern Kurdistan

After the Iranian regime stopped the flow of water to Southern Kurdistan through the dams it built on Zêyî Biçûk river, farmers have been pushed into very difficult conditions.

Those methods the occupying states of Kurdistan; Turkey, Iran and Syria use on the Kurdish people since decades, are now being executed by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Southern Kurdistan. Because Iran cut off the flow of water to Southern Kurdistan, its agriculture and stock farming are suffering tremendous impacts.

DIFFICULTIES IN THE AGRICULTURE AND STOCK FARMING SECTOR

Following the decision of the ruling KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) to hold an independence referendum in order to win the elections and secure its reign, the Iranian state cut off the flow of Little Zap (Zêyî Biçûk) river to Southern Kurdistan. The Little Zap river runs from Northern Kurdistan, passes through the cities of Piranshahr and Sardasht of Eastern Kurdistan, reaches the city Qeladiz in Southern Kurdistan and stretches from there furthermore to the cities Ranya, Sulaymaniyah and several of its districts. Due to the blockade of the water flow, the agriculture and stock farming sector in all those areas are suffering heavy setbacks.

STRENUOUS DAYS LIE AHEAD OF THE PEOPLE

The Iranian regime has blocked the flow of water to Southern Kurdistan to a big degree through the Sîlve, Visk and Kolse dam and countless other dams it built on Little Zap river. The inhabitants of Qeladiz, who are living near the shore of this lake, can no more irrigate their fields sufficiently due to the blockade. One of the farmers from Erdelan, Îbrahîm Ebdullah stated that because of the water blockage the local farmers are about to face great difficulties and hardship.

Ebdullah said that the poor people are making ends meet by agriculture and stock farming, adding: "The source of life of Qeladiz is this lake. Whole of Southern Kurdistan is currently undergoing a severe recession anyway. There is much unemployment. The blockade of the water will cause financial damage."

"OUR ENEMIES HAVE UNITED AGAINST US AND CUT OFF OUR WATER"

Mam Mihemed who is a farmer at the shore of Zap, explained that they are going through immense difficulties now as their water access has been restricted, and stressed that the enemies of the Kurdish people have united against the Kurds and do everything to prevent the Kurds from getting even one cup of water.

Mam Mihemed said: "Look, we can only perform agriculture at the shore on the shore. They are all enemies of the entire Kurdish people. Iran is an enemy, Iraq is an enemy and Turkey is an enemy in first place. Not even drinking the blood of the Kurdish people will satisfy the Turkish state. This is the case since the Ottoman era until now. The Ottomans burned Iraq thrice. And now these enemies of old have united against the Kurds, and cut off the Kurds access to water among others. What is left for me to say more..."
