Upon a call by Libertarian Lawyers' Association, Mesopotamia Lawyers' Association and Bar Associations in Northern Kurdistan, a number of lawyers including those affiliated to Lawyers for Democracy, Contemporary Lawyers Association, United June Movement, Libertarian and Democrat Lawyers have left for Cizre where state terror against civilians continues.
After gathering in Mardin, large numbers of lawyers from İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Batman Urfa, Amed and Van moved to Cizre to break the ongoing siege by security forces whose crackdown across the Cizre district.
Lawyers were blocked by Turkish forces on the road between Midyat and İdil districts of Mardin. While lawyers and HDP deputies Hüda Kaya, Nursel Aydoğan Mehmet Emin Adıyaman and Hidayet Taşdemir started to walk on foot, upon which they were once again stopped by Turkish forces.
In a statement here, Amed Bar Association President Tahir Elçi said; "There is a siege in Cizre and civilians are being killed for 9 days now. We as lawyers will definitively go there, no matter how many blockade and hindrances we face."
The insistence of lawyers has forced police to get in touch with the Governor. Talks continue for the passage of the mass.
