Turkey’s attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) have been escalating since the announcement of the unilateral ceasefire by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) following a call by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
According to a statement released by the Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) on Tuesday, parts of the guerrilla areas have been bombed at least 18 times by Turkish warplanes since yesterday. The attacks targeted several areas in the regions of Xakurke, Gare, Metîna and Zap.
On the other hand, the Turkish army carried out 329 attacks with heavy weaponry, artillery and howitzers on 9 March and 340 other attacks on 10 March, targeting various locations in the regions of Xakurkê, Garê, Metîna and Şehîd Delîl Western Zap.
On 11 March, 9 attacks with heavy weaponry, artillery and howitzers were carried out against Xakurkê and Metîna.
