Guerrilla Çekdar Goyî has fallen in the resistance against the Turkish occupation attacks on the Medya Defense Areas.
The Press Center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) paid tribute to guerrilla Çekdar Goyî in a statement. The Kurdish freedom fighter was killed last July in a Turkish attack on the Medya Defense Areas. "We remember our comrade Çekdar with respect and gratitude and promise to keep his memory alive in free Kurdistan," said the statement.
The HPG expressed its condolences to the guerrilla’s family and the Kurdish people. The following information was provided about the identity and life story of the fallen guerrilla:
Code name: Çekdar Goyî
First and last name: Rıdvan Kayar
Place of birth: Sêrt
Names of mother and father: Zahide – Yakup
Date and place of death: 2024 / Medya Defense Areas
Çekdar Goyî was born in Siirt (Sêrt) and belonged to the Goyî tribe. He grew up in an environment close to the PKK and was affected as a child by the brutal oppression of the Kurdish people by the Turkish state. Despite constant repression, his family held on to their political and cultural identity. As an adolescent, Çekdar became active in the revolutionary youth movement and joined the guerrillas in Bakur (North Kurdistan) in 2015. After a short training, he took part in the resistance for self-government in the old town of Sûr in Amed (Diyarbakir). He was injured and continued his struggle after recovering. Later, he was arrested and sent to Adana-Kürkçüler prison. He used his imprisonment for ideological training. He left prison as a determined militant of the apoist movement and went to the mountains again.
During his ideological and military training in the Medya Defense Areas, Çekdar Goyî studied Abdullah Öcalan's philosophy and the conditions for a free life. "Hevalê Çekdar was killed in July 2024 in an enemy attack in the Medya Defense Areas," the HPG wrote.
