HPG: Four soldiers killed in Çukurca

HPG/YJA Star guerrillas hit the Turkish soldiers on Martyr Colomerg hill in Hakkari's Çukurca district, destroying 4 emplacements and one container, which left 4 soldiers dead.

HPG (People's Defense Forces) Press Office released a statement providing information regarding the continued attacks by guerrilla forces and ongoing operations and attacks of the Turkish army in North and South Kurdistan territory.

The statement stressed that the Turkish army continued its savage attacks in defiance of laws of war with the ultimate goal of destroying anything belonging to the Kurds and Kurdistan. HPG said the most recent attack on Mehmet Karasungur Cemetery of Martyrs in Qandil has revealed this reality once again.

HPG reported that guerrillas hit a group of soldiers situated on Martyr Colomerg hill in Hakkari's Çukurca district at 13:00 on April 5. Four emplacements and one container of the soldiers here were destroyed and four soldiers were killed as result of the action, after which troops in the surrounding outposts shelled the scene with howitzer and mortar fire.

Recalling that the Turkish army had launched an operation in Vartinik, Cıbiryan and Deşt areas of Dersim on March 25, HPG said clashes erupted between guerrillas and soldiers during this operation which is participated by thousands of soldiers and special operations teams with advanced technical equipment.

HPG said Turkish forces suffered losses and conducted intense bombardments on the operation zone, stating that 14 guerrillas were martyred whilst putting up a brave fight during clashes. HPG noted that ID details of the fallen guerrillas will be announced once clarified.

According to the statement, Turkish jets shelled the following areas in guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in South Kurdistan territory;

- Adılbeg hamlet in Medya Defense Zones at 09:30 on April 5,

- Mehmet Karasungur Cemetery of Martyrs in Qandil region at between 11:00 – 12:30 on April 5. The museum in the cemetery was demolished as result of the bombardment.

- Şifreza area in Zap region at between 18.00 – 18.30 on April 5,

- Martyr Rüstem area in Zap region at between 19.30 – 20.00 on April 5.
