HPG commemorates guerrilla Xwînrêj Êrîş

The HPG commemorates guerrilla Xwînrêj Êrîş, who lost his life in an accident in the Medya Defense Areas in 2016.

Guerrilla Xwînrêj Êrîş suffered a fatal accident on 12 December 2016 in the Medya Defense Areas, said the People's Defense Forces (HPG) press center.

Xwînrêj Êrîş was born in Yüksekova, province of Hakkari. In their declaration in memory of the fallen, the HPG underlined to the deeply anchored patriotism of the people of Yüksekova. “These people have always resisted the assimilation policy of the Turkish state and paid a high price for it. The population of Yüksekova spoiled all dirty plans of the enemy and is a symbol of the revolutionary popular resistance against colonial policy."

Xwînrêj Êrîş grew up in a patriotic environment and was shaped by the resistance. As a youth he was a leader in the popular uprisings, serhildan. In order to fight the Turkish oppressive regime even more effectively, he joined the Kurdish guerrillas. He attached great importance to constant education.

The HPG describe him as a “sincere person who was deeply connected to the liberation movement and who responsibly and successfully carried out all the tasks he was given. While fighting with great passion and conviction in the mountains of Kurdistan, he was injured in an unfortunate accident. Despite the subsequent treatment, he could not be saved and fell a martyr. We express our condolences to the precious family of our fallen companion, the rebellious population of Yüksekova and the patriotic people of Kurdistan and once again give our word that we will crown the struggle of our immortal fallen with victory.”
