A delegation of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) has completed its examination in Sur district of Amed which witnessed heavy clashes between Turkish forces and local people following the imposition of a curfew by the governor yesterday.
Delegation member Amed HDP branch co-chair Ömer Önen said police directed guns at the delegation members as well, while another delegation member HDP Adana deputy Meral danış Bektaş reported that people remained determined to reist the attacks by saying “they will not be able to take possession of our will”
The delegation members held a press briefing in Keçi Burnu in Sur district following their assessments at the scene of clashes that took place after the curfew imposed on the district. Speaking first, HDP Amed branch co-chair Ömer Önen reported they also were subjected to attacks by the security forces in the district and said “We were together with the people during the curfew. An armed attack targeted us as well, which left JINHA reporter Şehriban Aslan wounded. This demonstrates everything”. Önen said the situation in Sur was similar to one in Kobanê and added that people remained in high spirit despite the attacks.
HDP Adana deputy Meral Danış Bektaş said attacks on the people aimed to create a chaotic environment and reported that “The building of Hasırlı Neighbourhood Assembly was burned down and the electricity was cut. An all-out attack is being waged on people by the forces of the Palace, and a censorship is being imposed to avoid the exposure of what is going on. People told us security forces will not be able to take possession of their will, despite all the attacks.”
Bektaş pointed to negotiations as the only way to ensure a solution, and the Turkish state's attempt to stage a coup in response, and reiterated the Kurdish politicians' commitment to stand by their people.
Following the press briefing, the delegation left the district.
In the meantime, it has been reported that entrance into the district with cars is now allowed, while the intense police siege in Hasırlı and Hançepek neighbourhoods continues.
While clashes continue, the slogan “Long Live leader Apo” is echoed in all the streets of the district and people continue to make voices in protest at the attacks.
