Güven: The embargo on Maxmur must be lifted immediately

The co-chair of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Leyla Güven appeals to the South Kurdistan government to lift the embargo on the Maxmur refugee camp immediately.

For more than eight months the Maxmur refugee camp has been under embargo of the KDP. For some time now, the camp has also been deprived of supplies from Iraq. In a video message, Kurdish politician and activist Leyla Güven appealed to the Southern Kurdistan KDP government:

"The Corona virus has spread all over the world and people are taking measures across the globe. We try to take precautions in all parts of Kurdistan according to the possibilities and conditions. Our people who had to flee from North Kurdistan to the South are living in Maxmur under difficult conditions. The South Kurdistan government has been imposing an embargo on the Maxmur refugee camp for a long time.

The existence of the people in Maxmur is threatened by the difficult conditions and the corona virus. We Kurds are responsible for each other. I ask the South Kurdistan government as a politician from North Kurdistan to lift the embargo. The coronavirus is a great danger. Do not let our people die of this pandemic.”
