The district governor was appointed as a trustee by the Ministry of Interior to the Kağızman district, in Kars province.
On 20 February, co-mayor Mehmet Alkan, from the DEM Party, was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison for "membership of an illegal organization" in the case he was tried in.
The municipality building was then blockaded by the police, while entry to and exit from the district was banned.
