Encü on Silopi: They want to intimidate the people by killing civilians

HDP Şırnak deputy Ferhat Encü said people in Silopi faced the possibility of being shot even when went go out to buy bread as snipers have been positioned on the roofs of governor's office, police station and military buildings.

HDP Şırnak deputy Ferhat Encü spoke to ANF regarding the situation in Hakkari's Silopi district where Turkish security forces killed 4 civilians in the last two days.

Encü said people faced the possibility of being shot even when they went out to buy bread as snipers have been positioned on the roofs of governor's office, police station and military buildings. He said special operation units went out in the streets and opened random fire around in the event of any move, and asked; “How will elections be held under these circumstances?”

Four civilians were executed and one child was seriously wounded by state forces during the last two days of conflict in Silopi.

Following the execution of three youths in the house where they took refuge yesterday morning, 55-year-old civilian Fatma Ay and her 14-year-old daughter Berfin Ökten were targeted by snipers as they slept on the roofs of their house in Karşıyaka neighborhood of the district last night. Snipers positioned on the District Police Headquarters Traffic Registration and Supervision Bureau shot first the daughter and then the mother at around 00:30. The woman lost her life and the girl was heavily wounded.

'WE CANNOT ESTIMATE WHAT WILL HAPPEN A LITTLE LATER'

Commenting on the situation in the district, HDP’s Şırnak deputy Ferhat Encü said “We have been going through extraordinary days in the last one month and civilians are being killed every day.

Encü said the situation in the district was calm for now, adding; “Voices of guns were being heard during the morning. It is calm here at the moment, but we cannot estimate what will happen a while later."

Commenting on the attacks of Turkish state forces in the Kurdish cities, Encü said “The state forces here pursue the same policies of intimidation, forced migration and terrorization with ISIS in Rojava. They want to intimidate the people by killing civilians, make them unable to go out to buy a bread even, and create a social psychology where everyone would be concerned over their lives. A 55 years old mother and her daughter were shot while sleeping on the roofs of their house. They are pursuing a psychological war against the people”.

'THEY WANT TO FORCE THE PEOPLE TO MIGRATE'

Recalling that Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and AKP declared a war against the Kurdish people after rejecting the results of June 7 elections, Encü said; “The powers that do not recognise the will of the people want to drag Silopi into an economic, social and political chaos environment and force people to migrate”.

Encü drew attention to the fact that people have started to migrate because of the attacks and said people are migrating in large numbers yet but many have started to move to other cities near their relatives. He said these people left their houses as they are as they hoped to turn back to their town.

Recalling the elections planned to be held on November 1, Encü asked “How can elections be held under these circumstances?”.

'WE WILL DISAPPOINT THIS POLICY TOO'

HDP MP for Şırnak underlined that AKP planned to hinder elections in Northern Kurdistan, adding; ““They aim to prevent the reflection of the people's will at ballot boxes as they think they can leave the HDP under the electoral threshold in this way. However, we will disappoint this policy as well and stop the war”.
