DFG: Seyit Evran’s memory and legacy will live on in the great struggle of the Kurdish people

A journalist, a writer and a revolutionary, Seyit Evran spent 30 years of his lifetime in the struggle for freedom in pursuit of the truth in four parts of Kurdistan.

The Dicle Firat Journalists’ Association (DFG) based in Northern Kurdistan released a statement paying tribute to Kurdish journalist Seyit Evran who died in Rojava at the age of 54 due to heart disease.

The statement, titled “The memory of Seyit Evran will live on in the Free Press struggle”, included the following:

“We have learned of the martyrdom of Free Press worker Seyit Evran with great sadness. Seyit Evran dedicated his life to the relentless struggle of the Kurdish people. With his pen and camera, he recorded the happenings in four parts of Kurdistan. He did not leave the field of battle no matter the challenges. He set off for this sacred march with Gurbetelli Ersöz and her likes in the 90’s, and continued it in Bakur, Bashur, Rojhilat and, most recently, in Rojava. He conveyed the truths of war, the experiences of Kurdistan’s people, the struggle and the resistance to the world on the path of the Free Press. In this sacred struggle marked by his energy, excitement and commitment, he joined the “Martyrs of the Free Press”. His memory and legacy will live on in the great struggle of the Kurdish people.”
