DBP commemorates Qazi Muhammed, calls for national unity

In a written statement on Thursday, the Democratic Regions Party commemorated the leader of the Kurdish Republic of Mahabad, Qazi Muhammed and called for "national unity" among the Kurdish parties.

The Democratic Regions Party (DBP) released a written statement to mark the 75th anniversary of the execution of Qazi Muhammed, the founder of the Republic of Kurdistan in Mahabad, north-western Iran. The statement released on Thursday emphasized that Qazi Muhammed paid a huge price for Kurdish national unity.

CALL FOR UNITY

“Kurdish leader Muhammed would always emphasize the fact that the Kurds’ liberation from cruel regimes could be achieved through national unity and point to the conspiracies of the regional powers. Shortly before his execution he said, ‘I hope that the next generations will take a lesson from our death’. Today, the Kurds face dangers similar to the ones experienced during the Republic of Mahabad. On the one hand, the regional powers attempt to eliminate the gains of the Kurds, and on the other hand, interest-based political groups block national unity among the Kurds,” the statement said.

"We would like to express that Muhammed’s struggle for the Kurdish people inspires us. We want to remind the Kurdish people and their political representatives that his execution 75 years ago was an attempt to eliminate the freedom and unity of the Kurds. His memory can only be kept alive through strong commitment to the efforts for Kurdish national unity,” it added.
