Co-mayor of Amed's Kocaköy district formally arrested

Kocaköy Co-mayor Affüllah Kar has been imprisoned.

Co-mayor of Amed's Kocaköy district, Affüllah Kar had been taken into custody on January 28 as result of a police operation in which three other people were detained for alleged “membership to a terrorist organisation”. The detainees were referred to Diyarbakır Courthouse yesterday evening.

Following procedures at the prosecutor's office, the detainees were referred to court which ruled arrest for Kocaköy Co-mayor and another person by the name of Zeki Kılıç on charges of “membership to a terrorist organisation”. The other two people were released with “judicial control”.

Kar had previously been stripped of his authorities as district co-mayor in the scope of an investigation run by Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor's Office.

Affüllah Kar and Zeki Kılıç were sent to Diyarbakır D Type Prison.
