The Democratic Institutions Platform announced at the Southeastern Journalists' Association (GGC) in Amed that the campaign for “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, a political solution to the Kurdish question” has reached a new stage. According to the platform's statement titled ‘We resist the conspiracy, we meet in Amed for freedom’, the final of the actions and activities that will continue until 13 October will be in Amed. On 13 October, a big rally will be held in Amed.
Speaking after the press release, the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Co-Chair Keskin Bayındır stated that the declaration was announced on the anniversary of the 12 September Military Coup and said that the coup mechanism in Turkey renews itself every day. Bayındır pointed out that: “The AKP-MHP government resembles the era of Kenan Evren (chief of the 12 September 1980 military coup). Our call as organisations, political parties and peoples is this: The solution to the crisis the peoples are experiencing is the solution to the Kurdish question. 44 years of war policies continue today. Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan has been in İmralı for 25 years as the interlocutor and solution force of the Kurdish question. He is constantly working to solve the Kurdish question. Instead of finding a solution to the Kurdish question and establishing a democratic constitution, the AKP-MHP government continues to implement the coup mechanism in four parts of Kurdistan.”
Stating that their call is for everyone who wants peace and freedom, Bayındır demanded that the will for the solution of the Kurdish question be put forward. He added, “The solution to the Kurdish question can be achieved through the end of the isolation of Mr Abdullah Öcalan and his freedom. On 13 October, we will show the will for a solution together with hundreds of thousands; writers, intellectuals and our people. We will come together for a solution to the Kurdish question.”
Speaking on behalf of Mothers for Peace, Meryem Turan said, “We invite everyone, especially mothers, who are against isolation to our rally on 13 October. Let the isolation be lifted, let the doors of prisons be opened.”
ÖHD (Association of Lawyers for Freedom) Co-Chair Ekin Yeter spoke as follows: “Within the scope of the Right to Hope, we are at the point of taking the demand for freedom to an ongoing stage. In this context, as human rights defenders, together with those who want the law to be applied, we are defending a people’s demand for status. We will continue this struggle for freedom together with those who say, ‘We demand a just and free life’. We call on all public opinion in Kurdistan and Turkey to strengthen these efforts.”
