Commenting on Öcalan’s call, PUK President Bafel Talabani said: “We must accept this call together and take practical steps quickly to achieve peace.” He vowed that they will continue to support every step that will strengthen coexistence and brotherhood.
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani made a statement on his official X account regarding the ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ made by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan earlier today.
The statement by Talabani said: “The PUK sees the current process as an important beginning and a critical stage. It considers it a national responsibility to uphold the common values of Kurdish identity and to contribute to the peaceful resolution of problems. It also considers it to be a duty to support this message in order to build a broader and more stable future for our people.
We must accept this call together and take practical steps quickly to achieve peace. We will continue to support every step that will strengthen coexistence and brotherhood between Kurds and Turks.
We believe that this process must be built on the foundations laid by the late President Mam Jalal from 1993 onwards. As the PUK, we emphasize once again that we stand by our brothers and sisters in the four parts of Kurdistan."
