The Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Delegation has left for İmralı Island for a third meeting with Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
On 28 December 2024, DEM Party MPs Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pervin Buldan traveled to Imrali Prison Island to meet with Abdullah Öcalan for the first time. The second meeting took place on 22 January 2025.
Unlike the previous meetings, the delegation to the third meeting in İmralı consists of seven people. In addition to Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Pervin Buldan, DEM Party co-chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, Ahmet Türk, DEM Party Istanbul MP Cengiz Çiçek and lawyer Faik Özgür Erol from Asrin Law Office are also part of the delegation.
The delegation will announce Öcalan's historic call to the public after their meeting today. According to reports, the delegation will make the statement at the Elite World Hotel in Taksim, Istanbul.
The call will be shared on giant screens in Amed (Diyarbakır), Van and Mersin, as well as in the Sulaymaniyah city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Preparations have started in Amed's Şêx Seîd Square and Sulaymaniyah’s Azadî Park before the announcement, as well as the Maxmur Refugee Camp.
The statement will also be shown live on big screens in North-East Syria, and in Pariser Square in Berlin. Kurdish associations have invited people to watch the event.
