AKP entrusts Pervari to the 'landlord’s children’

The AKP has left state institutions in the district of Pervari in Siirt province in the hands of the children of a landlord, Emin Özcan, known as 'Emin Ağa'. The family are reported to have engaged in various acts of irregularity.

The AKP government has entrusted state institutions in the district of Pervari to people close to it who are known as ‘the landlord’s children,’ offspring of Emin Özcan, known as ‘Emin Ağa,’ who died a few years ago.

Elections won with support of district governor 

Tayyar Özcan, a son of Emin Özcan, won the local elections last year after the district governor asked local officials to vote for him. This is not the only example of irregularity

Persecution of teachers 

Murat Özcan, from the same family, was made director of education in the district. Ever since being appointed, Özcan has persecuted teachers who belong to the EĞİTİM SEN union. On one occasion he went to a union meeting with a major, intelligence operative and village guards and threatened the teachers.

A headmaster of one of the high schools in the district is Fırat Arınç, a nephew of ‘Emin Ağa,’ who is said to have ‘persuaded’ 23 teachers to join the Eğitim Bir-Sen union, known to be close to the AKP.

He has no knowledge of health, but is in charge of the hospital

The Pervari state hospital is also in the hands of the Özcan family. Kenan Özcan, who was appointed director of the hospital, has no qualifications for the post. Özcan as previously the director of the local primary boarding school. Özcan was removed from this post after students at the school raped and killed a young girl.

Hospital director Özcan is known to have incited staff against members of the Health and Social Service Union (SES).

Local people say they have made complaints about the institutions run by the Özcan family, but have not been able to obtain any result.
