5.4 magnitude earthquake in Van

The 5.4-magnitude occurred at a depth of 5 km.

According to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), a 5.4-magnitude earthquake was registered in Saray district of Van province. The epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 5 km, was announced to be the rural neighborhood of Kargalı.

The earthquake was felt in the surrounding areas and caused panic.

The last major fatal earthquake in North Kurdistan was registered in Karlıova district of Bingöl on June 14. A village guard died and 18 people were injured in the 5.7 magnitude earthquake.

An earthquake occurred on 24 January in Sivrice, province of Elazığ.41 people were killed as a result of the earthquake of magnitude 6.8.

On 22 February a 5.9-magnitude earthquake centered in Xoy city of East Kurdistan, left 10 people dead and more than 250 houses destroyed in Başkale province of Van.

At least 44 villages in Xoy were destroyed and more than 100 people were injured.
