Violations of rights in Van and Türkoğlu prisons

Aydın Çubukçu is a prisoner in Van. He was not released despite being 82 percent disabled. In Türkoğlu jail, prisoners are not given hot water.

Aydın Çubukçu (62), a sick prisoner in Van F Type High Security Closed Prison, is not released despite his serious illness. Çubukçu, who has been imprisoned for nearly 30 years following the 36-year prison sentence given to him, conveyed the health problems he experienced in a letter he wrote in prison.

Pointing out that he could not meet with his family, who lived in Batman, for years, Çubukçu added that he developed many chronic diseases during his long-term captivity.

Emphasizing that his life has turned into torture, Çubukçu said that he has diseases such as 'Chronic Hepatitis B, hypertension, cyst in the brain, prostate, COPD, stomach ulcer-reflux-gastritis, Vertigo, the right eye has no vision, and the left eye sees 50 percent after surgery'.

Çubukçu wrote: "The reports that emerged as a result of my latest examinations at Van Yüzüncü Yıl Hospital were checked by the hospital's health board and it was unanimously decided that I was 82 percent disabled."

Baran Gül, one of the prisoners in Türkoğlu No. 1 L Type Closed Prison in Maraş, talked about the violations of rights in the weekly phone call with his family.

Stating that they were not given hot water and those who did not receive the double covid vaccination were not allowed to have visits, Gül added that the visits were also limited to 20 minutes and he complained about the huge pressure on prisoners.
