Turkish police torture 4 young people in Hakkari

The Turkish police detained 4 young people on the pretext that they did not give way to them, and then tortured them in a warehouse. The young people, who received a report of assault, were taken into custody again.

The Turkish police in Hakkari (Colemêrg) used violence against the people in a taxi and the driver on the pretext that the taxi was not giving way to them.

The taxi, driven by Fatih Ağacanoğlu, as well as passengers Azat Kaya, Şevket Kaya and Hamdullah Kaya, were subjected to insults and violence by the police when it was stopped at the Depin Police Checkpoint. It was reported that after the police stopped the taxi, they started torturing the taxi driver and passengers.

Tortured and strip searched

It was reported that the Turkish police took the young people they detained to a closed area, a warehouse, at the police checkpoint and tortured them for minutes. It was learned that the young people, who were later released, went to the Hakkari State Hospital and received a report of assault.

The violence against the youths was proved by photographs. The 4 young people were subjected to violence by nearly 15 police officers, and they were strip searched.

The young people were detained and taken to the Hakkari Provincial Gendarmerie Directorate to give their statements.
