Sedat Avşar, who had been held in Antep H Type Closed Prison for 30 years, was released.
Avşar was welcomed in front of the prison by his family and relatives, as well as the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) and Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Antep (Dîlok) Provincial Organizations and Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA) activists. After the welcome, Avşar set off for his hometown of Amed, Bismil district.
Sedat Avşar was detained in Aydın’s Kuşadası district in 1995, and then brought to Amed and tried at the Diyarbakır State Security Court (DGM). Avşar was sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of “disrupting the unity and integrity of the state.” He was released after being held in prison in Amed, Çankırı, Yozgat, Siirt and finally Antep.
