Kalkandere L Type Prison became a torture center

Prisoner Serhat Karsu, held in a solitary cell in Rize Kalkandere L Type Prison, was tortured and his belongings were confiscated.

Turkey’s prisons, which have become centers of inhumane treatment, remain on the agenda with the torture of prisoners.

It is reported that soldiers and guards raided last week the solitary cell of Serhat Karsu, a prisoner held in Rize Kalkandere L Type Prison. Karsu told his family about the incident in a weekly phone call with his family on December 2.

ITEMS IN THE CELL WERE SEIZED

Karsu told the following about the raid on his cell to his family: ‘’The raids were carried out arbitrarily without any justification. The books, magazines, notebooks, tables, television and radio in my cell were confiscated. I was beaten by the guards and verbally insulted when I opposed this injustice. The sole of the shoe you sent was torn off and the damaged shoe was given back to me. Due to the confiscation of the table, I eat my food on a cardboard that I spread on the floor.’’
