Iranian lawyers urge all colleagues to “defend our people killed in the streets”

As the protests in East Kurdistan and Iran continue on the 48th day, Iranian lawyers urged their colleagues to “defend our people killed in the streets”.

The protests that started in Iran after the murder of Kurdish woman Jina Mahsa Amini by the morality police in Tehran marked the 48th day.

Iranian lawyers have issued a statement on the recent developments in the country. Addressing the autocratic government of Supreme Leader Khamenei, lawyers said, “The legitimacy of any law depends on the public will and consent. Iranians don't want the Islamic Republic, and no one has the right to decide on behalf of the people.”

“Regime forces regard themselves as the 'representatives of Allah'. This delusional idea encroaches on the will of the people. It is a right of the people to oppose the illegitimate will, decisions and laws of the government. Our biggest concern is freedom and judicial justice. We want to take back the administration from these racist and incompetent rulers. We call on all lawyers to defend our people killed in the streets. It is our duty to defend our people against abuses and violations of the regime. We urge everyone to take on this responsibility,” the lawyers’ statement said.
