IHD holds vigil to promote freedom of political thought on Human Rights Week

IHD Adıyaman Branch visited HDP Adıyaman Provincial Organization and held a “freedom of political thought” vigil to draw attention to the closure case brought against the party.

The Human Rights Association (IHD) Adıyaman Branch visited the HDP Adıyaman Provincial Organization as part of the "Freedom of political thought" event organized for the Human Rights Week which takes place from 10 to 17 December.

HDP Party Assembly (PM) Member Izzet Karadağ, Rıza Bilgiç and party executives welcomed the delegation, which included IHD Organisation Board Member Bülent Temel.

Stating that the reason for the visit was the reaction to the increasing attacks against the HDP, IHD central committee member Bülent Temel said: "As if all the pressures on the HDP were not enough, we also think that the demand for the HDP to be closed despite the past assurances of the President of the country amounts to intolerance to political thought."

Underlining the need to promote "freedom of political thought" instead of a language that polarizes, divides and creates conflict, Temel said: "Political parties, NGOs, human rights defenders and all sections of society, who come from the tradition of freedom of expression have been victims of political bans, have been oppressed should express their solidarity to the HDP for which closure is sought. They should display a common attitude supporting freedom of political thought.”
