HDP deputy highlights the situation of four prisons

There is a belief that ill-treatment by prison staff against prisoners is related to the policy of impunity for these officers.

HDP Adana MP Tülay Hatimoğulları drew attention to the situation of ill prisoners in Kayseri, Tarsus, Kürkçüler and Antalya jails.

Hatimoğulları noted that despite being ill a prisoner in Kayseri Women's Prison, was not referred to hospital.

Hatimoğulları said: "Merve Aydoğan who is a celiac patient in Kayseri Women's Closed Prison, talked about her health problems and in particular about a sudden vision loss, in a phone conversation with her family on 3 April."

Despite these complaints, Merve Aydoğan was taken to the infirmary but not referred to the hospital. Another doctor at some stage said that he could make any diagnosis without an eye measurement machine.

Hatimoğulları asked: "Why hasn't Merve Aydoğan been referred to the hospital despite the seriousness of her situation?"

Merve Aydoğan and another ill prisoner, Rojda Tokcu, met the prison director but he just made fun of the two women.

Rights violations have been denounced not only in Kayseri Women's Prison.

Hadi Elçiçek, who suffers from a heart condition and is in Tarsus 2 Type T Closed Prison, Mazhar Güler who has Hepatitis B and lung diseases in Kürkçüler F Type Closed Prison and Serhat Tuncer, who suffered from diabetes and a heart condition in Antalya L Type Closed Prison also told their families during their phone conversations that no measures were taken in prisons against the coronavirus pandemic.

Elçiçek told her family that there were rumors of a woman guard who tested positive for coronavirus. However the prisoner said that no quarantine was ordered.

Hatimoğulları asked: "Is it true that a guard was diagnosed with Kovid-19 in Tarsus No. 2 T Type Closed Prison? Have the guards with whom she had been in contact with been quarantined and checked up?

Mazhar Güler, who has been in Kürkçüler F Type Closed Prison, has Hepatitis B and suffers from a lung conditions. He told his family that the wards are not disinfected, there are not enough gloves and masks, and canteen staff is not wearing gloves.
