Hayrettin Ekinci released after 30 years

Hayrettin Ekinci spent 30 years in prison, and saw his release postponed for 6 months, because he didn’t admit “remorse”. On Thursday he has been finally freed.

Hayrettin Ekinci (63), a prisoner in Izmir Aliağa Şakran No. 2 Closed Prison, whose release was postponed for 6 months because he did not accept the imposition of "repentance" despite having completed his 30-year sentence, was eventually released on Thursday.

Ekinci, who spent 30 years and 6 months in prison, was welcomed in front of the prison by his family, the executives of the Aegean Association for Solidarity and Assistance with the Families of Prisoners and Convicts (EGE TUHAYDER) and the executives of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party).

Ekinci said that the prisoners resisted the imposition of "repentance", all kinds of rights violations and intimidation policies.

Ekinci will fly to his hometown of Amed today.
