France and Switzerland call upon Turkey to respect freedoms

French and Swiss officials that spoke during the recent UN Human Rights Session criticized Turkey and called upon the country to respect basic human rights the freedom of the press under all circumstances.

The 33rd September Human Rights Session of the UN Human Rights High Commission continues on its 5th day. Officials discussed human rights violation in Syria and other counties in today’s session. French and Swiss officials that spoke during the session criticized Turkey and called upon the country to respect basic human rights and the freedom of press under all circumstances.

FRANCE: BASIC RIGHTS MUST BE PROTECTED UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES

A representative of France emphasized the suspension of human rights and the freedom of the press in Turkey, and said that basic rights must be protected under all circumstances. The representative expressed the concern of France over the recent developments in Turkey, and underlined that basic rights must be respected even during periods of state of emergency.

SWITZERLAND: WE ARE CONCERNED

A representative of Switzerland expressed concern over Turkey’s treatment of journalists and elected officials, and called upon Turkey to respect basic human rights as well as the independence of the judiciary.
