Family waits 5 years to get remains of son

The body of YPS member Serkan Dikme, who fell as a martyr during the self-government resistance in Yüksekova, was handed over to his family 5 years after his death.

The body of Serkan Dikme, a member of the Civil Defense Units (Yekîneyên Parastina Civil -YPS), who fell as a martyr in the struggle for self-government in Yüksekova district of Hakkari in 2016, was delivered to his family 5 years later.

The family of Serkan Dikme, who had been buried in the Erzurum “cemetery of the nameless”, gave a blood sample to Erzurum Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) in 2016 in order to receive his remains. The information that the DNA samples matched was given to the family on 16 December, 5 years after Serkan’s death. The family went to Erzurum to collect the remains. After the completion of the procedures, the family was given the remains and came to Adana's Ceyhan district.

Attendance to Dikme's funeral, who was buried in Ceyhan Cemetery, was prevented, except for family members.
