Condition of 84-year-old seriously ill prisoner Güler worsening

The Freedom for Ill Prisoners Initiative said that 84-year-old seriously ill prisoner Sıddık Güler's condition is serious and that "he should be released urgently."

Members of the Freedom for Ill Prisoners Initiative came together in front of the Human Rights Association (IHD) Ankara Branch building and drew attention to the situation of ill prisoners. In the 507th week of the action, attention was drawn to the situation of 84-year-old seriously ill prisoner Sıddık Güler in Izmir Menemen R Type Closed Prison.

IHD Central Executive Board (MYK) member Nuray Çevirmen said that as far as they could determine, there were 1,517 ill prisoners in jails, 651 of whom were seriously ill.

Nuray Çevirmen said: "Sıddık Güler suffers many diseases and also has problems due to his age. (...) Instead of being released due to his serious illness, he was transferred to Menemen R Type Closed Prison and is still being held there. His health condition is not suitable for him to be kept there."

Güler, who has dementia, forgets to drink water and eat, Çevirmen said, calling for his immediate release.
