The Prime Ministry General Directorate of Media And Information (BYEGM) revoked the “Yellow Press Cards” of the newspaper Özgür Gündem employees.
After the newspaper Sabah targeted Özgür Gündem by presenting the headline story “The Footsteps of Newroz” on yesterday’s issue as it was about the Ankara attack, Ankara Public Prosecutor’s Office immediately launched an investigation against the newspaper on grounds of “terrorist propaganda”. Following the investigation, First Criminal Court of Ankara issued an order to pull yesterday’s issue off the shelves.
The oppressive measures against Özgür Gündem continue today in the form of the revoking of Yellow Press Cards of the journalists in Özgür Gündem by the Prime Ministry General Directorate of Media And Information (BYEGM).
The verdict reached the journalists whose cards were taken in for inquiry via text messages on their phones.
The text message reads: “Your press card with the ID number of [#Number] has been revoked on the grounds that it is not compliant with the Press Card Code (BKY). Please return the revoked card to [City Name] Provincial Directorate.”
