Women journalists from South Kurdistan: No power will be able to silence the Free Press!

Protesting the murder of Nazım Daştan and Cihan Bilgin, women journalists from South Kurdistan said: “The Turkish state is afraid of the Free Press. No power will be able to silence the free press.”

At the Metro Centre in Sulaymaniyah, representatives of several media institutions and organisations made a press statement on the killing of journalists Cihan Bilgin and Nazim Daştan as a result of an UCAV attack by the Turkish state in northern Syria.

Tewar Adil spoke on behalf of women journalists from South Kurdistan (North Iraq).

Tewar Adil emphasised that the Turkish state has had a hand in the bloodshed of the Kurdish people throughout history and noted that the Kurdish people have been resisting the attacks of the Turkish state for 100 years.

Tewar Adil drew attention to the critical role played by the free press in revealing the truth in the face of the occupying Turkish state's attacks against the Kurdish people and said: “The Turkish state's attacks on the Free Press are an indication of how much the free press is feared. Previously, we witnessed the Turkish state targeting and martyring female journalists Nagîhan Akarsel, Gulistan Tara and Hêro Behadîn. We will continue to walk in their path and legacy. No power will be able to silence the Free Press.”
