Forty-four people, including a number of journalists, will appear in court today in Istanbul as part of the ongoing KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) investigation.
The indictment containing the charges is some 800 pages long and it has been unanimously accepted by the Istanbul Court in May 2012.
The journalists, from Kurdish and left wing independent media, are charged with leading a terrorist organization, being a member of a terrorist organization, and being a member of the press committee of a terrorist organization. The journalists are mainly from DIHA News Agency, Ozgur Gündem daily paper but also ANF, Vatan and BirGün.
Speaking to Hürriyet Daily News, publisher Ragýp Zarakolu, who was released pending trial within the KCK case in April, has complained about the decreasing public interest in the case, after the release of the most prominent figures.
Zarakolu's son, Deniz Zarakolu, has been under arrest for about a year as part of the same case. He was arrested because of the courses he had given at the Peace and Democracy Party’s (BDP) politics academy.
Journalists are being charged for reporting the stories of Kurdish people.
