Operation on Turkish daily Cumhuriyet executives and journalists

Police forces have raided the houses of journalists for the Turkish daily Cumhuriyet. Reports suggest that 13 executives and journalists of the newspaper are to be detained as part of the operation.

Police forces have conducted an extensive operation against the Turkish daily Cumhuriyet Monday morning.

The houses of the many executives and journalists of the daily were subject to simultaneous raids.

The daily's Editor-in-chief Murat Sabuncu, writers Güray Öz, Aydın Engin, Hikmet Çetinkaya, Hakan Kara and Turhan Günay, and caricaturist Musa Kart have been taken into custody during the raids amid a detailed search conducted in their houses. House of Executive Board Chairman Akın Atalay was also raided but Atalay was not detained for he is reported to be abroad currently.

On the other hand, Önder Çelik, Bülent Utku, Mustafa Kemal Güngör, Eser Yener, Müslüm Özışık, Turhan Günay and Nebil Özgentürk are also reported sought within the scope of the operation.
