Prisoner Revþan Günay who has been kept in a one-person cell in Bakýrköy L Type Prison for the last three months wrote a letter where she exposes continuous pressure and ill treatment.
Revþan Günay, arrested on the allegation of being a ‘bomber’ without any concrete evidences, says the followings in her letter;
“I have recently read a story of a 17 year-old girl who was accused of bombing a police station. With sticks, stones and kicks, the girl was lynched by a group of around 400 people, consisting of police, men and women. Furthermore, a police officer was in the last minute prevented by his colleagues from shooting her dead. And the girl, despite everything, tried to be strong.”
Revþan continues telling that she was put in a fourteen-person juvenile ward the week before. “They treat me differently as I am the only political prisoner here. All the children in the ward, except from two of them, treat me badly”, says Revþan and tells the followings about the environment in the ward;
“The children here already suffer from a deep depression. A girl for example has recently entered into my room, took all my pills and committed suicide. After almost everyone in the ward attempted to assault me when I reacted to the event, I told the situation to my lawyer who will in the coming days meet the public prosecutor of the prison about my complaint. If they decide to transfer me, I’ll be sent to Maltepe Prison for Women and Juveniles which also consists of political prisoners like me. In the meantime, I am being kept under observation for now and the administration has arbitrarily rejected my recent demand to use the common area with other prisoners who are also kept under observation. I am often going to the hospital because of my depression but the doctors only give lots of pills at each time. I take around 10 pills a day, which has almost poisoned me in the previous days.”
Revþan also says that she has been persistently denied to receive Özgür Gündem paper despite numerous applications she has made so far; “The paper isn’t delivered to me alone. While going to the hospital a few days ago, I encountered a girl I knew but I was immediately taken to the ring vehicle, not allowed to speak a single word with her. I was kept waiting for long hours in the ring vehicle. I am getting annoyed more and more as days pass.”
